Interesting words from Munari´s book -the title Design as Art is definitely well chosen and seems central to his toughts (must say I haven´t read the book).
Althought, I have a diferent understanding of design (fundamentally, I understand it as a communication and problem solving discipline) and art ( I mainly see it as a subjective self-expression), Munari seems to understand the combination or visceral (function) and emotional (form), to use Don Norman´s tipology, as a product of an art driven designer or an accessible down-to-earth artist. But can art be designed? Is design art?
I can see the importance of the experience for a winning product, that emotional empathy. Johnny Ives and Steve Jobs at Apple are masters. Don´t know if they think in me, maybe they think about themselfs, but I love their products.
As a UX designer I primarily think on the users, but often the first thing is trying to put myself on their shoes and making it functional, pleasing and fun (if possible).
