Thinking about thinking

People who have followed me for a while probably know that I've always been interested in productivity and knowledge work. Recent projects in these areas, like Roam or Obsidian are interesting, but not quite there yet in my personal opinion, for a myriad of reasons. This is an exciting time for tools for thought, and I've been exploring (in both writing as well as code), what the future of this space could look like. More on this very soon.

Office hours

Over the last couple of months I've been meeting people informally to chat, with no real agenda. Some of the conversations have been with people I already knew, and some have been with people I did not know before. It has been great. Matt Webb has been doing something similar and apparently has been loving it too.

Want to chat? Here's a link to set up a 30min call. I normally do these on Wednesdays, but reach out to me if that doesn't work for you and I'll try to make some other time that works for both of us.

Work at Union continues. We're doing a fundamental rethinking of our assumptions, however, as our market is definitely more crowded now than it was when we first got started. It is very easy for community products to get lost in the shuffle of trying to be all things to all people, so we're restarting from first principles.

Corona lockdown projects

While corona didn't have a dramatic impact on my day to day because I already worked remotely, it did motivate me into exploring (or re-exploring) specific areas:

  • I took a bit of a dive into machine learning
  • I took a second look at programming with Rust
  • Been exploring game engines like Godot, Haxe/Heaps and Unity
